I found it on such a steep forest slope that it could practically roll down on its own. It was the last of the four roots I discovered that day to be processed. Over many years, the oak repaid the rock for supporting its trunk by embracing it ever more tightly. The growth of the wood merged with the mineral of the stone into a single form, which I shaped into a vision of an underwater world. You can see an island rising above the surface, birds diving into the wind and gliding over the sea’s fish, and perhaps even something more.
